Your Prostate
  • I keep peeing all the time.

  • I'm going to the toilet 3 or 4 times every night. It must be my prostate, right?

  • The doc told me I had an enlarged prostate and I'm worried that it must be cancer.

  • My mate says that the trouble with having a prostate operation is that it causes secondary problems like not getting an erection.

  • I'll be honest I don't know where my prostate is or what it does.

Prostate

Some prostate problems are more serious than others. Prostatitis can affect men at any age and causes pain and discomfort due to inflammation and sometimes infection. BPH, or benign enlargement of the prostate, the most common prostate condition, affects older men. It can be quite uncomfortable. If you are an older man and have urinary symptoms this is the most likely cause. However, prostate cancer is a possibility.

The majority of men diagnosed with prostate cancer will be over sixty – commonly in their seventies. Men can be affected from the age of about 45 but this is rare. The risk of getting prostate cancer gets higher as a man becomes older.
